Privacy Torts- If a member of society violates another person and person violated can prove it, they can collect damages through a civil law case.

Privacy Torts

1. Intrusion- "trespassing" Gathering information about someone, not publishing it necessarily. More public the place, less expectation of privacy.

2. Public disclosure of highly objectionable or embarrassing private facts

               a. Publicity

               b. Offensive

               c. Not Newsworthy

3. Publicity that places plaintiff in a false light (defamation/ libel)

               a. Distortion

               b. Fictionalization

4. Appropriation of name or likeness for the benefit or advantage of the defendant. Has to be for a commercial gain.

Defenses-

1. Consent- written, oral or implied

2. Newsworthiness/ Legitimate public image
