This week we got into our permanent groups for the foreseeable future and learned about various forms of communication. One of them being typewriters, which upon their introduction empowered women in various ways, a primary one being that they were able to make money from it. Another thing we learned about is fandoms, which are like tiny online cultures that usually revolve around some sort of media. Be that a movie, novel, or even celebrity. Fandoms can be a good thing, but they also come with some potential negatives. One of them being peoples overattachment to them at times.

Newspapers are evolving from what they used to be. They are no longer contained in physical papers, although the option is still there for those who want it, they've gone digital. This move to digital makes them much more obtainable and digestible for readers.

On Thursday we learned about our professors research project that delved into local newspapers. She believed that chains of newspapers were producing less and less local news which causes communities to lose investment into them, and sought out to prove it with extensive research and support from a team. Newspaper chains are the big corporations of the news world and cut corners to efficiently get news out. One of those corners was printing out more and more national news instead of local to save on costs.
